  • In-Situ and Ex-Situ Bioremediation: Microbial degradation of organic pollutants, bio-attenuation, landfarming, biopiles, and phytoremediation (using plants to extract or stabilize heavy metals and soil contaminants).

  • Bio-Augmentation and Bio-Stimulation: Nutrient addition, oxygen sparging, and targeted microbe inoculation to accelerate ecosystem recovery.

  • Genetic Engineering for Environmental Applications: Construction of genetically engineered microbes (GEMs) for toxic waste breakdown, synthetic biology applications, and biosecurity protocols.

  • Biofilm Engineering: Utilization of beneficial biofilms in fixed-film reactors alongside anti-fouling technologies for industrial heat exchangers and pipelines.

2. Water & Wastewater Resource Recovery

  • Biological Wastewater Treatment: Activated sludge systems, membrane bioreactors (MBR), moving bed biofilm reactors (MBBR), and anaerobic digestion processes.

  • Nutrient Recovery & Micro-Pollutant Treatment: Biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), treatment of pharmaceuticals, and microplastic filtration.

  • Desalination and Advanced Purification: Reverse osmosis, electrodialysis, biomimetic water purification membranes, and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems.

3. Solid Waste Valorization & Circular Economy

  • Bioenergy and Biofuels: Anaerobic digestion for biomethane, algal biofuel harvesting, cellulosic ethanol production, and bio-hydrogen conversion.

  • Organic Waste Composting & Bioconversion: Aerobic digestion, vermicomposting, black soldier fly larvae bioconversion, and organic soil amendment production.

  • Resource Recovery & Thermal Treatment: Pyrolysis, gasification, biochar production, waste-to-energy systems, and urban mining of critical materials.

  • Upcycling & Bioplastics: Industrial fermentations converting organic waste streams into polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) and polylactic acid (PLA).
